Equal uses a unique combination of ingredients to ensure it has a great sugar-like taste and does not leave the bitter aftertaste commonly associated with some sweeteners.
Aspartame is the main sweetening ingredient in Equal sachets and tablets, it is composed of two amino acids, aspartic acid and phenylalanine, which are found naturally in protein containing foods, including meats, grains and dairy products. Your body digests these components in exactly the same way as it would digest them from these other sources.
Equal Spoon for spoon is formulated with aspartame and the sweetener Acesulfame-K. Like aspartame, Acesulfame-K is approximately 200 times sweeter than real sugar. Acesulfame-K is not metabolised by the body, it is rapidly absorbed and then excreted unchanged.
Sucralose is the key sweetening ingredient in Equal Baking, it is a non-caloric sweetener that is 600 times sweeter than sugar and has a clean, sweet taste without an aftertaste. Sucralose can be used in place of sugar in many foods and beverages and is heat stable , so it’s great for use in a wide variety of temperatures and works well in most home cooking and baking recipes. Equal Baking also contains sweetener Acesulfame-K in its special blend of ingredients designed for superior baking with sweet results at high temperatures.
Stevia (steviol glycosides) is the sweetening ingredient used in Equal Stevia tablets. Stevia is a member of the Chrysanthemum plant family grown in South American and parts of Asia, and has been used as a natural sweetener in South America for hundreds of years. Today stevia is used to sweeten foods and beverages in countries throughout the world. Steviol glycosides is a collective term for the extracts of the sweetest components of the stevia leaves. These natural sweeteners create a blend 200 to 300 times sweeter than sugar.
Additional ingredients are added to Equal products to make the very concentrated sweeteners easier to dissolve and to enhance the flavour of the food and drink. All ingredients are approved food additives that can be safely added to food and beverages.
